Ok, I know its crazy, but here it is.lol. Jacosen F10 mower has a 15' cut with all wings down, 8 ft cut with just the center reels down. Total of 7 reels or gangs. Powered by a Ford 172ci industrial engine. Perfect for large tracts of land.golf courses (imagine that), churches, air fields or any place with some acreage.
Bought it cause I thought it was pretty neat! I have a 2.5 acre property and it takes me 10 minutes to mow it.lol. Obviously its more mower than I really need. Originally came from the Seaford DE golf course. Its in good condition and I am using it presently. Does need one bearing set for one of the rear rollers on one of the reels, but they are available and it is still useable as it is. Oh, I just bought a new marine deep cycle for it.the largest one I could find.

Those I have seen for sale tend to be listed at $2500-$3000. I'll entertain all offers.but would be interested in trading for.zero turn mower or cub lo-boy, firearms, older toyota or honda car in good condition, motorcycles, pro-touring kinda stuff (I have a 73 trans am with a turbo).or what do you have? Never know what may pique my interest. Its approximately 8 ft wide (the twin front wheels from side to side) and 16 ft long. It has previously been transported on a rollback.
Dont think the outer front wheels would need to be on the deck to transport. It weighs 6300 lbs.
I have the original manual, and someone hand wrote in pencil 1968.so I'm guessing that was the year. I do know they made them through the early 80's, when they basically switched from unpowered reels (wheel driven) to hydraulically powered reels.those I believe continue to be made. Or of course.it could be your next pro-touring ride! Dare to be different! Sorry to say Im not interested in buying your mower but it brought back a lot of good memories! When I was in my mid 20s I worked at a golf course and my main job was cutting the fairways. We used a Ford tractor with a 9 gang for the first year that I was there but then they finally broke down and bought an F10.
As crazy as this sounds I really liked that job. So much so that even after I left there for a 'real' job I went back 4 nights a week to do the fairways and every Sat and Sun morning to mow greens for at least 4 years.
It always felt good to be outside in the sun. Not now though!!!! You should see if any sod farms would be interested in the mowers as spares. Im sure theyre Worthingtons. They bring good money even off the machine.
Thanks for the reply guys.this thing is fun.lol. It really is overkill for 2.5 acres though huh Mike?.lol.
Thanks for sharing the story Mike, and yelcamino.you must be thinking BIG property huh? As for approaching sod companies.hmmmm.I'd imagine that any company that depends on its livelihood has moved past a machine with these reels to the ones that are hydraulically driven no? I could be wrong here though.
I had one guy approach me since I also listed it on craigslist.he has a small private airport thats been in his family his whole life. He's used one of these before. Havent heard from him in a week though, so guessing he is very unsure what his best option is. I know the cost to transport it was a big factor to him since he didnt have any way to do it and he is 8 hrs away from Delaware. A couple of other offers I wasnt interested in. No use for a mid 90's limo.
Guy wanted too much cash for his Honda Shadow. I got it on an impulse, and I traded some firearms for it. One thing that attracted me was its simplicity in design. I'm still using it. Takes me 10 minutes to do this property.then I take it down to my friends and do the big open spaces there in about 10 passes, but its a smaller property. Would take me like 3 minutes and 4 passes except I have to stop and turn it since its a small property.
Still with a 48' rider there it still took almost an hr before.lol A big reason for passing it on to someone else is I'm not going to be here long term.its a friends property and she wont use this once I move. She's already looking at riding mowers her 15 yr old son will use. No huge hurry though.I wont be leaving until next yr.
Still think it would make a very different pro-touring build.lol. Seriously though guys.when I said I've seen them listed at 2500-3000.thats a listed price and I'm not in it that deep.
I have $2000 tied up in it. Make an offer.gold, silver, car stuff, tools, I need car stereo stuff (but not super high end), canoe or small boat, camera,.22 rifles & pistols.actually any firearms might have interest, Dillon reloading stuff. I wish I could find someone with a 92-95 Honda Civic VX. Would love to play with one.
Or how about someone nearby who can paint my car? I'll provide supplies.lol. Mower racing.lol. Or how about mower pulls? Of course you'd be the envy in town pulling into your local cruise nights on the BLVD. Chances are all your friends would ask you to mow their grass on the way. I'm sure shipping wouldnt be cheap, but that reminds me that in my searches for Jacobsen F10 someone requested bids for shipping one on uship.com Dont know the details of where it was shipped or how much though cause I didnt look.
But I think it might fit on your avg car trailer or equipment/large lawn trailer. I hauled a mid sized tractor on one once.
And then of course theres always driving it home.lmao. It was 29.5 miles to home from where I bought it, but people drive farm equip on the roads here all the time. The manual says it will do 39 mph in 4th gear, but I was frightened to go over about 20 mph. It would be easy to lose control with that rear wheel steering being kinda loose. Surprisingly though I got over 10 mpg! Got some stares when I pulled into the busy gas station with it to fill up.
Ive been out of that line of work for close to 25 years. I didnt know the new reel mowers were different. The place that I worked for after the golf course had 5 F10s that were set up with 3 huge rotary mower decks. This was a 5000 acre site and the grass wasnt exactly well kept. They used the F10s for the fields and smaller mowers for around the buildings.
I always thought the reel mowers were only good for manicured grass because they had a tendency to push longer grass over without actually cutting it. Thats why I suggested sod farms. This works fine up until about 10 inch length on grass.what it does have trouble with is those long stringy stalk like plants that arent a grass really.or not what I think of as grass. It pushes those over unless you get em when they are short. But they are very tough and fibrous.
But yeah.I think this will be best for a small business or private individual who doesnt have the deep pockets for the new stuff. From what I understand these ran over $50,000 in the 70's to 80's.no idea what the new stuff runs but very expensive I'm sure. Thanks Stefan. Something I think I mentioned before. It cuts grass VERY well if its under 10'. Lawn experts recommend them over rotary type mowers because it cleanly cuts the grass unlike rotary blade mowers which really rip the edges. This means the grass doesnt dry out as much from being cut.less likely to get that burned look especially in hot places.
But the long tough stalky weeds it just knocks down. This is the common theme with these reel type mowers and happens to new ones too. Just worth mentioning.
Hi all I am new to this site and hope to find some needed info. I am running a 3 gang setup and in search of repair/operator manuals to diagnose problems, make repairs and adjustments. These units appear to be older than I am but seem to operate fine. The serial numbers are in the 29,000 range and have been fitted with rollers similar to the Fairway models.
I would like to keep them running but can not find any maintenance documentation. Wheel bearings are loose and leak quit a bit. One wheel is falling apart. I would also like to find a source for good used parts or serviceable complete units. Thanks Scott.
