PARCC Support & Training: Providing Training to our district staff is paramount to ensuring the PARCC Assessment Administration will go smoothly for our students and staff. There are a variety of roles defined by the PARCC vendor in the test coordinator manual.
The roles for each building are Test Coordinator, Technology Coordinator, Accommodations and Accessibility Coordinators (504, Home Instruction, and Special Education), Test Administrators, and Test Proctors. Each staff member will receive a mix of in person, video, and hands on training, and every staff member will be assigned a role. Since this is the first year of the PARCC Assessment, and Technology is a component of the administration, the training for PARCC will be longer than training for the NJ ASK or other state assessments. Please take note: 1) Only certified staff, employed by the district, who have a SMID can be a Test Administrator. 2) Teacher Assistants employed by the district can serve as Proctors. 3) Proctors must be supervised by a Test Administrator at all times.
4) Test Administrators and Proctors must be trained, and must sign the security agreement, no exceptions. The current PARCC Fact Sheet can be found. This Fact Sheet was released on January 15, 2015. The January 2015 PowerPoint slides can be found here: (This is the PowerPoint from the NJDOE Test Coordinator Training in January 2014) These slides may be used during the turnkey training in the buildings. Additionally, Pearson has created online training modules, and matching PowerPoint presentations for each role. These modules are recommended by the vendor.
A transcript of the modules is available if you want to track the modules completed. A quiz is embedded within the module and the PowerPoint presentation if you want to check your knowledge.
The modules can be found here: - (Current Online Training Modules can be found here) Similar to the NJ ASK, there is a full training manual for the administration of the PARCC Assessment. The manual is around 150 pages, but readers only need to read the appendix from New Jersey and the scripts for the units are a good portion of the manual. All of the information must be reviewed and read prior to the test administration. Additionally, everyone must sign the security agreement contained in the manual.
The manual can be found here: - (Includes Test Coordinator, Test Administrator) To view the manual, scroll down to M, then download the manual that applies to you. Technology is a key component of the administration. The vendor has created a summary of the error codes students may experience during the administration. For the most part, users should only experience basic issues that can be resolved by reloading the web browser.
We are advising staff to use Google Chrome during the test administration. A copy of the error codes can be found here: - (If an error appea rs while testing, your test administrators can use this page to diagnose the issues) Test Administrators will be monitoring a portal during the administration of the test. Unlike paper, a computer will be placed in the classrooms for test administrators so units or individual tests can be started, resumed, or ended. The location of this portal is here: - (PBA and EOY data center) Experiencing the test is part of training. All buildings have been instructed to give the test and the test Nav Tutorial to the staff and students during the month of January. Please visit the PARCC for Teachers link found here: - (Test Nav Tutorial, Sample Tests) Some schools have already conducted a load or a beta test on the school's infrastructure. A load/beta test is when students are experiencing the sample test at the same time in the same location.
The Building Test Coordinator should work with the LEA Test Coordinator to determine a date for the load/beta test. An additional step schools can take to prepare is to conduct an Infrastructure Trial. This is when students and/or staff log in with test codes and complete practice questions on Pearson's training site. (Conduct Infrastructure Trials, Sample Users, Sample Test Classrooms) PARCC holds monthly Office Hours on Twitter. Feel free to follow PARCC on twitter or review PARCC's to learn more. (This is PARCC's twitter page.) Additional PARCC training information can be found here: - (Links to a variety of PARCC Information pages) Clatures.
