It’s essentially a case of rebadging, but the 2017 Holden Barina does get a new pair of headlights along with a slightly modified grille and some other minor tweaks. All of the changes implemented are the work of GM’s Australia Design team to make the city car look “all grown up” and expand its appeal beyond the usual customer base consisting mostly of youngsters. Holden is confident the changes over the will make the Barina “turn heads in all the right ways,” although frankly that sounds like an exaggeration.

Regardless of selected trim, the 2017 Holden Barina is going to be powered exclusively by a naturally-aspirated 1.6-liter gasoline engine linked to either a five-speed manual gearbox or an optional six-speed automatic transmission available on the LT trim. Output is rated at 114 horsepower (85 kilowatts) at 6,000 rpm and 114 pound-feet (155 Newton-meters) of torque at 4,000 rpm. Pricing kicks off at 14,990 AUD for the base LS version with the manual gearbox and rises to $20,390 for the automatic-equipped LT.
