Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly I read spce sheets for this generator and several of the spec sheets say it requires 0.16 L of oil. If generator has a low oil level sensor that will kill the spark if the oil level is low. Here is a copy of the Owners manual: I went through the manual reading every detail about the generator and could find nothing about an low oil level sensor. The wiring diagram on page 27 only shows the ignition switch, with a Brown wire to the ignition controller and then an orange wire to the high voltage coil in the circuit. The parts diagram throws a wrench n the game as it mentions an ignitor. (item 2) I see the switch, (item 4 page 24) The magneto (Item 16 page 22) The High voltage coil / set (Item 28 page 22) as the only 3 things in the circuit. Disconnect the brown wire at the ignition controller and switch the run switch to ON.

Check for a ground (none allowed) Then check the Orange wire at the ignition controller to the high voltage set / coil. You may read resistance of the coil but is should NOT read ZERO ohms.

IF you read ZERO you need to locate the short. Inspect the wiring connections especially around the ignition controller. For a unit with 1 hr of run time it has to be something simple like a disconnected terminal unless rodents chewed on the wiring.

Thanks for choosing FixYa, Kelly Posted on Jun 04, 2011. Hi Daveanjos, i dont own a bmw bike, but this info may help out. The emergency operation means The engine is running in emergency operating mode. Engine power might be reduced and this can cause hazardous situations, particularly if you attempt to overtake other road users. Engine power level might be lower than normal: adapt your style of riding accordingly. The engine control unit has diagnosed a fault. In exceptional cases, the engine stops and refuses to start.

Otherwise, the engine runs in emergency operating mode. You can continue to ride, but bear in mind that the usual engine power might not be available. Have the fault rectified as quickly as possible by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer. Source: regards, voodoo Apr 19, 2009.
