1997–2000 Chrysler Sebring coupe The 1995 through 2000 Chrysler Sebring was the successor to the coupe. The first generation Sebring coupe was introduced in April 1995, several months after the related. Despite its similarities to the Avenger, the Chrysler's suspension was tuned slightly on the softer side compared to Dodge's stiff suspension. Although the Sebring did not really offer true 'off-the-line' muscle, it did handle well over long, curvy roads, offering minimal body roll. LXi models further benefited from rear sway bars, a slightly different tuned fully independent suspension, along with 17-inch wheels wrapped with Goodyear Eagle performance tires. The coupe version of the Sebring had seating for five and was considered to be one of the larger, more roomy coupes on the market. Trunk capacity was similar to that of many mid-size cars, capable of handling more than one set of golf clubs. At the time of its introduction, the Sebring sported a crosshair grille, reminiscent of the original.

The grille was non-functional, with the lower half under the bumper used for air flow intake in a ' function. Although said to be built on a stretched platform (which is not entirely untrue), it is more accurate to say that their platform was based on the four-door platform. However, these cars do share a great deal with their Talon sibling, including much of their dash and instrument panel along with select suspension and steering components. 1997–2000 Chrysler Sebring coupe The Sebring underwent a minor facelift for 1997.

From 2004, Touring and Limited versions started to replace the LE and LX designations respectively. Lack of a diesel engine and right-hand drive availability prevented this Sebring from being a true pan-European model unlike other Chryslers such as the PT Cruiser and Voyager. In addition, the model was dropped from Chrysler's lineup in some countries, notably France, before production ended in 2006.

In France, the three domestic car-makers PSA-Peugeot, Citroen and Renault dominate the new car market, which meant very low sales of the Sebring there. As a result, the sedan was only imported by Chrysler France in 2001 and 2002. The 2003 and facelifted 2004–2006 year models were not. The convertible was only sold until 2004. I looked in the service manual and the cylinders for the folding top are behind the interior trim panels below the rear windows. There are a second set of cylinders for the trunk lid that are located in the trunk. To the OP, was the fluid low when you pulled the pump? If so, that must mean a leak since the system is supposed to be sealed. The service manual talks about the possibility of needing to add fluid more than once to restore the correct level because some of the fluid you add will tend to fill the system during the cycle.

I'm not a technician, so take this advice with a grain of salt but I would verify you really have the correct fluid level and add some more if needed. I would expect the top to cycle better as you got the fluid level back to normal if that is indeed the problem. You should be able to check the sides of the trunk below the carpet for leaks from the decklid cylinders.

You'll have to take the rear seat out and remove the side trim to check the folding top cylinders. Here's what I found in the service manual for the interior trim removal. 1.Place the convertible top in the full open position.

Ensure the top is completely stowed into the trunk area. 2.Using a trim stick or equivalent, pry the rear shelf trim. 3.Remove the rear seat cushion. (Refer to 23 - Body/Seats/COVER, Seat Cushion - Removal). 4.Remove rear seat back.

(Refer to 23 - Body/Seats/SEAT BACK - Removal) 5.Using a trim stick or equivalent, pry up on the armrest/cup holder and remove from the quarter trim panel. 6.Remove the one screw (1) from the quarter trim panel. Hey guys, I got it all sorted out and fixed finally. It was the header motor and not the hydraulic motor that was the source of the problems.

The top was stuck in the closed position so it was usable as a regular car but was unresponsive to the convertible button. Since it was stuck, had to remove the 6-pointed shaft, it's the one that sticks out once you remove both visors and their corresponding parts above the driver and front passenger seat and the header cover. This small shaft removal was the most intimidating part but once that shaft is forcefully pulled down and out (you'll hear a snap, it's just the shaft clip), the dime-sized, coin-like metal next to it can be moved forward or backward freely and this unlocks the anchoring clips that hold down the roof. Once this was done, I pushed the convertible button and the top operated normally and stored itself in the trunk. I removed all the bolts holding up the header for access to the motor, carefully replaced the header motor with a new one ($70 - Retractable Top-Motor 68028392AA same one for chrysler 200 convertible), inserted the shaft (it's got 2 of its own round clips on the top and bottom so it doesn't fall out) with the roof anchoring clips in the down position, lubed up all touching metals and VOILA! No more issues.

The top now functions as it should without any hesitations or pauses. Thanks everyone for your input, patience and guidance.
